Most homeowners are familiar with shingle roofing, but did you know that there are more than one type of shingles in a typical roof? Aside from the familiar flat shingles, there’s also ridge cap shingles that complete your typical roofing system.
What Are Ridge Cap Shingles?
Ridge cap shingles are a type of shingles that are designed to be installed along the edges of your roof’s planes. Instead of having a flat shape, ridge cap shingles are concave at the middle. This makes them easier to fit on ridges (intersecting upper edges of two roof planes).

Why Install Ridge Cap Shingles?
You may be wondering why you need ridge cap shingles, even when you have plenty of regular shingles to spare. If you ask any roofing contractor, simply piling regular shingles on roof ridges won’t do because their shape will always leave gaps. The contoured profile of ridge cap shingles ensures that there won’t be any gaps and water will not seep into the more vulnerable gap running along a roof ridge.

Picking the Right Shingles
Ridge cap shingles are just as exposed as standard shingles, so it’s important to make sure that you’re getting high-quality ones installed on your home. GAF® Z®Ridge shingles are exceptionally good at keeping the water out, thanks to it’s signature Z-fold design that offers better coverage and compared to regular shingles.
Installation Manufacturer’s Specifications
Just like with regular shingles, ridge cap shingles have to be installed according to manufacturer specifications if you want them to function as intended. Because of this, we strongly recommend having any roofing shingles installed by the highest rated roofer with certifications from your chosen shingle’s manufacturer.
